Great Fitness Tips

by Ben Harborne

So you've decided it's about high time you got off your butt and did something about that gut of yours. Well good news, it's very easy to do and you won't have to wait long before you start seeing results. Here are some tips to kick your workout plan into gear.

Set realistic goals

We all want to look like a model, and we can, but it takes time to transform your body, to shape it the way you want to. So what should you do? Well if looking like a model is something you'd like to do, go for it. Just stick with your routine, and with some persistence and a little work you'll be there quicker than you think.

Rest

Rest is very important, it's when our bodies regenerate in between the stresses we subject them to from day to day. Everyone needs at least 7 ½ hours of sleep each night. It's also important to take a few days off in your workout routine otherwise your body will get run down and you'll lose your momentum, which is bad for any training routine.

Nutrition

Ever hear of the addage "you are what you eat"? Well it's true, if you're busy eating cookies, ice cream, and fast food you're not giving your body a very good supply of building blocks to pick from. Fruit, vegetables, and meat are what the human being evolved to live off of. You need these nutrients in order to function properly, your brain, your immune system, your cardiovascular system, your muscles all need food to run — so why not treat them with the best premium ingredients you can get your hands on.

Furthermore, it is important to eat at certain times of day. Your body needs carbohydrates before and after a workout and in the morning. A steady supply of low glycemic impact foods will give you consistent energy throughout the day.

Cardio and Strength Training

Men and women alike should do both strength training and cardio. The stronger your muscles are the more calories you burn while you do cardio. The more cardio you do the better your blood flow is to all parts of the body, including muscles, which promotes growth.

Track Your Progress

Tracking your progress is a great way to see how well you are improving yourself. By plotting how well you're doing in your workouts you can gather information to tweak your routine. Been lifting the same weights for a long time with no improvement? Maybe it's time to up the calories or give those muscles a rest for a while. A good workout journal will alert you to all kinds of problems and also keep track of your achievements.
